The Rev. Robin Hoover, PhD, founder of Humane Borders, will address “Social Justice: Information for Action” as keynote speaker at the Summer Internship Conference at The University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, Friday, Aug. 18, 1 p.m., Drachman Hall, Room A114, 1295 N. Martin.

Held every semester, the internship conferences at the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health offer an opportunity to graduating students to present their research or internship experiences. The culminating experience for all UA Master of Public Health students is the internship. It is the student’s opportunity to link classroom experiences to community-based program participation, assimilating educational instruction by integrating and then applying it to real-world public health issues. Internships frequently lead to job opportunities or provide important contacts.

“Depending on who you talk to in Southern Arizona, the issue of border security is a complex issue of human rights, national security and strong feelings on both sides,” notes Jeffrey Sinanian, graduate public health student and one of the student organizers of the conference. “As founder of the organization Humane Borders, the Rev. Hoover has extensive hands-on experience in fighting for social justice, and his presentation is guaranteed to move and motivate attendees.” The Rev. Robin Hoover is founder and spokesperson for Humane Borders, an interdenominational faith organization that offers humanitarian assistance to those in need through more than 70 emergency water stations on and near the U.S.-Mexico border. He holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University (TCU), a master's in divinity from Brite Divinity School at TCU, and a doctorate in political science from Texas Tech University.
