Student pharmacists to answer medication questions
Does the black cohosh you take for hot flashes interact with your cholesterol medication? Is it OK to keep the pain pills prescribed after your oral surgery on hand for future use?

Callers with questions about any prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, drug interactions, side effects and more can receive free information during the Medication Hotline, Oct. 26-28, from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. by calling (520) 626-8889. Medication information will be available in English and Spanish from faculty and students at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. The calls are not traced or recorded.

"With so many prescription, over-the-counter and alternative medication options available today, people may not be aware that advice from a pharmacist can make a critical difference in their health," said Michael Katz, PharmD, clinical associate professor at the UA College of Pharmacy. "Our goal is simple-we want people to read the label, follow the directions, and talk to their pharmacist if they have any questions."

About 30 members of the Students' Society of Health-System Pharmacists will staff the Medication Hotline. In previous years, approximately 150 callers have sought information from the hotline, which is held in observance of National Pharmacy Week.

The UA College of Pharmacy is home to four internationally recognized Centers of Excellence specializing pharmacy research, education and service.
