The inaugural Golden Hour Gamble on May 19 and the Cecil Family Golden Hour Golf Classic on May 20 are being held at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon, 6200 N. Clubhouse Lane.
Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, the Lodge will be transformed into a speakeasy for more than 100 participants. In addition to a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament and casino, a band and a 1920s style lounge-singer will entertain the crowd. The Golf Classic begins on Saturday with an 8 a.m. shot-gun start, followed by an awards luncheon at 1 p.m.
"We're excited to present a weekend of food, gambling, golf and entertainment to support trauma services in Southern Arizona," said John Porter, MD, medical director of UMC's Trauma Program
The "Golden Hour" refers to the first 60 minutes following a traumatic injury. If a patient receives proper medical care during this crucial period, his or her chance of survival triples and the possibility of severe complications is decreased significantly.
Since 2003, UMC has been the only Level 1 Trauma Center serving Southern Arizona. The cost to provide this critical community service is estimated at more than $70,000 a day. Proceeds from the event will be used to support the Trauma Program by providing funds for medical equipment, staff education, community injury prevention campaigns and other critical trauma center needs.
Sponsors of the weekend events include the Cecil Family, SCF Arizona and Wells Fargo.
