Nov. 21 Golden Hour Golf Tournament to Benefit UMC Trauma Program

Sept. 22, 2003
From: Katie Riley, (520) 626-4828

A golf tournament to benefit the trauma program at University Medical Center and the Southern Arizona Trauma Network (SATNET) is planned for 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon, 6200 N. Club House Lane.

The 2nd Annual Golden Hour Golf Tournament is sponsored by HEALTHSOUTH, the Southern Arizona Trauma Network (SATNET) and University Medical Center. SCF of Arizona is the tournament's title sponsor. Additional corporate sponsors include Wells Fargo, Lloyd Construction Co., Aramark and ScriptSave.

In July, University Medical Center became Southern Arizona's sole trauma center. The hospital expects to treat more than 4,000 trauma patients a year, making it the state's busiest trauma center.

Tournament proceeds have been earmarked for:

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses for physicians.

  • Mini-Trauma Life Support (MTLS) courses for emergency personnel.

  • Trauma Education for the Emergency Nurses (TEEN) courses for nurses.

  • Information systems, technology advancements or facility improvements as determined by John Porter, MD, medical director of UMC's trauma program.

SATNET's annual trauma conference, attended by more than 600 emergency medical personnel from the region.

Foursomes are available at $1,000. The fee includes lunch and a post-game awards ceremony at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon. Corporate sponsorships, including $350 T-box sponsorships, are still available. Contact Clint Brown of SATNET at 795-2170 or Kent Rollins of the UMC Foundation at 694-7770 for details.

The "Golden Hour" in the tournament's title refers to the first 60 minutes following traumatic injury, when the chance of survival triples if appropriate medical resources are available.
